The Bureau of Products and Standards (BPS) is a redefinition of the former GGOS Bureau for Standards and Conventions, which was established as a GGOS Component in 2009. The BPS is operated by the Deutsches Geodätisches Forschungsinstitut, Technische Universität München (DGFI-TUM) and the Institut für Astronomische und Physikalische Geodäsie of the Technische Universität München (IAPG) within the Forschungsgruppe Satellitengeodäsie (FGS).
The BPS supports GGOS in its goal to obtain consistent products describing the geometry, rotation and gravity field of the Earth. In order to fully benefit from the ongoing technological improvements of the geodetic observing systems, it is essential that the analysis of the precise observations is based on the definition and application of common standards and conventions. This is an important requirement for reliably monitoring global change phenomena (e.g., global sea level rise) and for providing the metrological basis for Earth system sciences.
