Geodesy Cartoons
GGOS Outreach Initiatives
Communicating geodesy’s role in understanding Earth’s dynamic system is crucial for raising public awareness and support. To bridge knowledge gaps and engage diverse audiences, the IAG’s Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) has launched outreach initiatives that make geodesy accessible through visual media, multilingual content, and user-friendly platforms. GGOS tools include educational videos on YouTube, a geodetic portal at www.ggos.org, and active social media engagement.
New Idea: Cartoons Promoting Geodesy
To complement recently done outreach activities and use a new kind of outreach material the idea producting geodesy-themed cartoons was born, as a new visual storytelling approach. The aim is to introduce geodetic concepts, products, and observation techniques in an engaging and relatable format. These cartoons also highlight pressing societal issues, such as the impacts of climate change and tectonic movements, making geodesy approachable for audiences of all ages.
Your Cartoon Ideas Are Welcome
We welcome feedback and ideas from the geodetic community to strengthen our outreach efforts. Suggestions for future cartoons are especially encouraged as we innovate and engage. Through collaboration, we aim to increase geodesy’s visibility and relevance, enhancing understanding of its role in monitoring Earth’s changes.
