A Modern Network of Geodetic Sensors for the Observation of the Earth
The wide-range of signals emitted by changes in the System Earth are not detectable by a single measurement technique. While positioning techniques (VLBI, SLR, GNSS, DORIS) have demonstrated be an efficient tool to determine the kinematics of the Earth’s surface, the detection of mass displacements within the System Earth is only possible with gravimetric methods (satellite and terrestrial gravity surveys). GGOS has the main commitment to implement an integrated global space geodetic network of sufficient capability and geographic coverage to understand better the dynamics of the Earth environment and conditions of global change.
